For reviewers
Deadlines and Extensions
Global Medical Reviews uses double-anonymized external peer review for scholarly articles. Reviewers assess both the main manuscript and relevant supplementary materials. Recommendations are advisory; the handling editor and, where required, the Editor-in-Chief make the final decision.
Invitation response
Reviewers are asked to respond within seven calendar days. The system normally sends reminders on day 3 and day 6. An unanswered invitation may expire after day 7 so another reviewer can be appointed.
Review deadline
The usual review period is 14 calendar days after acceptance. Reminders are normally sent five days and one day before the deadline, on the due date, and after overdue milestones.
Extension
Use the secure review page to request an extension before the deadline. State the reason and proposed new date. One extension of up to seven calendar days is normally available, subject to editorial approval. The editor may approve, modify or decline the request.
Reviewer workload
To avoid overburdening reviewers, the system warns against more than two active assignments or more than six invitations in a rolling 12-month period. Senior editorial approval and a recorded reason are required for an exception.
